The teacher side of thi...Thanks for reading, Kelly!
The teacher side of this also emphasized the use of a science journal/notebook throughout elementary school so that students, parents and teachers could see the development of this "scientific" mindset. Also, the basis of this whole premise was that kids are spending increasingly amounts of time in front of tvs, computers and video games, and thus are missing out on the opportunities to simply experience science and to make their own discoveries. One teacher shared how most of the students in her grade one class hadn't any experience with playing with buckets, bottles and other items with water. Yet again, one spoke of an informal survey of her grade 4 class where 85% of them had played some kind of video game or had been on Facebook both before bed, and before getting to school. Kind of crazy.

From my mommy point of view, it just made me really want to make sure I'm pointing out these little things in life. Appreciate the sunset. In some ways this is a better thing for parents because they can be sure the kids do it. Carmel concert had a grandfather come so his granddaughter could wear the new dress bought by his wife who died suddenly the day before. Harbourside had a live-feed last night to the hospital in Halifax where a father is a burn victim and Glace Bay High dedicated their last band piece about "peace" to the recently tragically killed young girl. Mt. Carmel, St. Agnes and MacDonald are working on a mass video with students and staff of "Love Rescue Me."

Now this. I feel so privileged to have been there that day but had no idea that this had happened. I'm a teacher too. But I will admit that being a parent of school-age twins has helped me articulate what I want in a teacher for my kids. I want someone who will love them for who they are, not who they aren't; someone who will get to know them, who will help them to capitalize on their strengths and strengthen their weaknesses. Someone who will make them laugh. Someone who will set high expectations and who will be compassionate. I would have had a different list before having kids.

PS.
